Our Towns screening @ The Arlene

Tuesday, July 13th    6:30 pm
What makes one place successful and others, well, not so much? Join us at Mouse River Player’s Arlene Theater for a public screening of Our Towns and a discussion on the question.
From Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Steven Ascher and Jeanne Jordan comes Our Towns, a documentary that paints a remarkable picture of America and how the rise of civic and economic reinvention is transforming small cities and towns across the country. Based on journalists James and Deborah Fallows’ book Our Towns: A 100,000-Mile Journey into the Heart of America, the film spotlights local initiatives and explores how a sense of community and common language of change can help people and towns find a different path to the future.
Doors open at 6:30, the screening will begin at approximately 7:15, following there will be a community discussion on the film and the keys to making a place successful. Beverage service will be available. This is a no-charge ticketed event to ensure we don’t exceed capacity at our venue.

Mouse River Players

Mouse River Players is Minot’s oldest community theatre. We began in 1971, and since that year we’ve performed in various locations in and around the Minot area. Youth programs and family theatre shows have always been a part of our season.

In 2004 we purchased “The Old Labor Temple” in downtown Minot. Volunteer efforts continue to improve the building and make it a comfortable setting for live theatre presentations and community uses. In 2006, we named the theatre “The Arlene” in honor of longtime arts supporter Arlene Saugstad.

Downtown Minot

It is an ethos. It is both people and place. It is past, present, and future smashed together. It is community, relationships, and independent spirit. It is risk and opportunity. It is vibrancy and decay. It is taste, texture, sound, and smell. It is unfinished, evolving, and it is authentic. It is downtown. It is Minot.

Main Street Books

Established in 2006, we are Minot's locally-owned, independent bookstore that specializes in new books, educational toys, and fun and quirky sidelines. We also boast a new event space with a resident artist featuring original framed art, notebooks, prints, and future bookmaking workshops for kids.

Come on in and see what makes us unique and let us help you find the perfect book for you or that wonderful special person in your life.
